Marjory Stoneman Douglas' good friend, Theo Long, was nice enough to send me this 1990 photo of these straw hat aficionados.
The occasion was Marjory's 100th birthday on Key Biscayne. I was the event's designated PR guy.
While the celebrated writer left us in '97, her home still sits largely forgotten in the South Grove.
Marjory left it to the State of Florida. It uses Coconut Grove's historic treasure to house a park ranger.
Unfortunately, you aren't allowed to go there. You can celebrate her life and the things she loved by visiting the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Nature Center on Key Biscayne. The Center, managed by Theo, is located on the north end of Crandon Park.
