THE FUTURE OF COCONUT GROVE

          

     What would you wish for Coconut Grove?  A hundred of us had this in mind at  Saturday's "Grove 2030" workshop.   In numerous breakout sessions we pondered what we liked and lacked.
  The mix of Grove activists, politicians, and business leaders, led by architect Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk and others,  discussed what our future should be. A few of the many suggestions were,

-improved access to the bay
 -better parking
  -bring back the playhouse
   -revitalize Peacock Park
    -trolleys
     -more green space
      -more public events "for Grovites"
       -limit chain stores and the gentrification 
         of the West Grove
          and the ever popular,
            -secede from the City of Miami.
     
 

  One group's sign read, "Keep us artsy, smart, healthy, and diverse". It's hard to argue with that.
  An attendee asked, "We've got three hours of great ideas. What's next?"   I didn't know. The group's next step was not revealed.
   
     I do know it was a great morning for sharing ideas, stories, and to make new friends. 
      The Grove needs more opportunities to do just that.
