GREAT WEEKENDS AHEAD!

         The ocean will be warm enough to swim in for 17 more days.  Why not spend this weekend on a deserted Bahamian beach?      Francesca and I attended a destination birthday party at such a place last Sunday.  Surprisingly, it was only eight miles from Coconut Grove.

  
       Virginia Key, four miles east, is lot like Eleuthera, Cat Cay, or Bimini.  Twelve of us were delighted to have its sparkling beach all to ourselves.  
     Had we missed the shark or polluted water warnings?  A security guard later explained, "People don't come much now.  It's too cold for locals". 
 It was 72 degrees,
fine for us. 
     
Why not go there this weekend?  You can almost be in the Bahamas just a mile from  South Beach.

RAMBLE ALONG

     Fairchild Gardens has its biggest event this weekend.  The Ramble begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday.   Stop by my son's (Dylan) Ready-to-Grow Gardens booth.   We'll be there Saturday morning helping out.
    It costs $25 to enter Fairchild which at first seems ridiculous.  We're now happy to fork over our fifty knowing it goes to feed homeless iguanas.        Tip: If you tell them the Grove Guy sent you, they may charge you more.

SATURDAY'S WALLCAST CONCERT

  You probably know about the New World Symphony's "wallcasts".  It's something like the Boston Pops on Miami Beach.  You bring chairs, a picnic, and sit on the green outside Symphony Hall.  The concerts, projected on the the side of a huge white wall, are terrifically entertaining. PINK PYTHONS or MONTY FLAMINGOS?

   The Miami Book Fair will kick off in a couple of weeks.   Looking through its ample catalog, it seems every living writer (except me) has been invited to speak.  
   You need to get tickets to see most of the big names.  Many of them are free.  
We ordered ours today. On Saturday, Nov. 22, we will hear Cornell West, Norman Lear, and John Waters (who will tell us about his recent hitch-hike across America).  On Sunday we'll be spending the evening with Mr. Monty Python, John Cleese.   
 It will be so exciting, and... free!

ANOTHER ST. HUGH CONCERT     Friends of mine produce the St. Hugh-Steinway classical concert series at the soaring St. Hugh Church on Main Highway at Royal Road (3460 Royal Rd. 33133).
