This
fun bike ride, co-sponsored by Bike Coconut Grove and the Mango
Republic, leaves Kirk Munroe Park (next to Coconut Grove Elementary
School) promptly at 9:30 am. on Sunday, Nov. 15.
This will be like the first King Mango Strut (100+ participants) on
wheels. Costumes and decorated bikes are strongly encouraged. Can your
bike blast music? That would be terrific! We'll give out a major prize,
like some barbecue sauce, for the best-sounding ride.
While
we will be riding loud and proud we are also be honoring local bike
pioneers, Kirk Munroe and Wilson Larkins. They did great things for the
cycling set a hundred years ago. We expect both of these mustachioed
heroes to come back from the dead to join us. If they bring their
friends it will be a zombie jamboree!
WILSON LARKINS,
who delivered his milk by bike,
founded the City of South Miami.
We honor him too.
Doesn't it sound exciting? Don't you want it to start NOW!!! Keep your
anticipation contained if possible and mark the date on your calendar
with the words, "Big Fun!".
The schedule goes like this:
8:30 - 9:10 a.m- bike decorating workshop in Kirk Munroe park,
9:10-9:15 Fake moustache class,
9:15-Welcoming speeches and prizes given out to the guy with the longest
upper-lip hair and the woman with the handsomest beard. They might get
some red sauce, too.
9:25- we assemble on Matilda Street to begin our 6-mile, one-hour
journey. It will take us through the Grove, South Miami, and end at the
University Metrorail station. Expected speed, 10 m.p.h. with three stops
to chat with historical figures from the past like Ralph Munro, Marjory
Stoneman Douglas, and Bobby Ingram (who, unlike the others, is very
much alive and in the present).
If you just want to join us for the first half (the Grove part) that's fine too.
Around 10:30 we will roll into University Metrorail Station to join the party there.
It will be great fun and we hope you can join us.
Call or write if you have any questions.
