CAN COCONUT GROVE GAIN ITS INDEPENDENCE AGAIN?

We had another sad election back in 1925. That's when an independent Coconut Grove was taken over by the City of Miami.  Groveites voted overwhelmingly against it but being in the minority, when the all votes were counted, they lost.

Yesterday 120 people gathered at Viscaya to discuss different ways the Grove could gain its independence again. It was led by former county commissioner, Katy Sorensen who said, "This meeting is a bright spot in a very dark week."

"The huge white boxes they keep building are destroying Coconut Grove. Enacting effective historic preservation laws can help stop them" -Historian Arva Park

We walked away aware of new possibilities for improving the Grove's security, zoning, and code enforcement.
